Dear Community Friends:
Special Olympics Calvert County will host its 5th Annual 5K Inspiration Run/Walk
on Saturday, May 17, 2008, beginning at 9:00 AM at the Calvert Marine Museum in Solomons, MD.
Special Olympics is a year-round sports program that provides recreation and
friendships to developmentally disabled youths and adults. These athletes all
benefit greatly when they participate in Special Olympics. Calvert County
Special Olympics currently offers aquatics, basketball, bowling, floor hockey,
soccer, softball and track and field. The annual Track and Field Meet is held in
partnership with Calvert County Public Schools.
There is no charge to the athletes who participate in these activities; the only
requirement is that each athlete must have a physical, which remains valid for
three years. After qualifying in two local competitions, the athletes are
eligible to participate in a State Special Olympics Tournament for each sport.
Some athletes are then selected to attend the Maryland State Summer Games each
year.
We need the help of the community in order to provide continuing sports training
and competition for these worthwhile athletic endeavors. The athletes require
uniforms, equipment, medals, awards and transportation to various activities.
All this requires money.
Sponsors are needed to make the Inspiration Walk at success, which will benefit
the Calvert County Special Olympics Program. Sponsors’ names will be featured on
tee shirts and banners and will be listed in our brochure. The levels of
sponsorship are: Bronze $ 50.00, Silver $ 100.00, Gold $ 250.00, and Legacy $
500.00.
In addition, the Inspiration Walk will require donors of gift certificates. The
certificates may be from restaurants, shops or other business establishments.
Finally, we will need volunteers who will assist with the event.

participants who have at least $25.00 in pledges will be given an Inspiration Walk
t-shirt and will be entered into the drawings for prizes. Water and snacks will
be provided to all participants.
